What are Recyclates?

Recyclates give plastics a second life. Instead of using only virgin raw materials, recycled polymers are produced from plastic waste and reprocessed for use in new products.

Depending on where the material comes from, recyclates can be post-consumer recycled (PCR) or post-industrial recycled (PIR). The right choice depends on the application, processing method, and performance requirements.

At Plastrans Technologies, our recyclate portfolio includes rPP, rPS, rPE, and rPLA. We work with customers to find materials that combine the required performance with a higher share of recycled content.

When needed, booster materials such as metallocene-based polymers can further improve selected properties and processing performance. This can help manufacturers make greater use of recycled materials without compromising the requirements of the final product.

Where are Recyclates Used?

Recycled polymers can be used across a wide range of industries and applications, depending on the material type, recycled content, regulatory requirements, and required performance.

Typical applications include:

  • Packaging and secondary packaging
  • Household and consumer products
  • Construction and infrastructure components
  • Pipe systems for suitable applications
  • Cable insulation and sheathing
  • Containers and canisters
  • Agricultural films and products
  • Water storage tanks
  • Technical components
  • Multilayer applications
  • Other products where recycled content and responsible material use are part of the material requirements

The suitability of a recyclate always depends on the specific grade, application, processing technology, and applicable regulatory requirements.

How to Choose the Right Recyclate?

Choosing a recyclate starts with understanding what the final product needs to do. The right material depends on the polymer, the manufacturing process, and the required performance.

Consider:

  • Polymer type and compatibility with the application
  • Processing method, such as injection moulding, extrusion, or blow moulding
  • Required mechanical properties
  • Melt flow index (MFI) and processing behaviour
  • Purity and material consistency
  • Thermal stability and stabilisation requirements
  • Colour and appearance
  • Required recycled content
  • Regulatory and end-use requirements

A suitable recyclate should provide consistent processing and the performance needed for the final application. Our experts can help identify the right grade and, where needed, combine recyclates with suitable performance-enhancing materials.

Why Partner with Plastrans Technologies?

Working with recycled materials often starts with a simple question: which recyclate will work for my product and process? Finding the answer can be less straightforward than it seems. Recycled materials can vary in origin and properties, and the right choice needs to fit both the manufacturing process and the final application.

This is where we come in. At Plastrans Technologies, we combine our knowledge of polymers with an international network of trusted producers to help customers find materials that work in practice.
